Review: This is the Revell 1/32 Junkers 88A-1, which was released late december 2008. This kit is a whole new design, and it seems that revell did it again! When you open the large top opening box you are greeted by 6 bags with a total of 11 sprues of which is one clear, Sprue A is cut in four pieces by Revell. The instructions are of the well known revell style with colour(mixes) givin in paint numbers of their own range, but also RLM numbers, which makes it easier for people who don't use Revell Emenals. The large decal sheet contains options for 3 Battle of Britain aircrafts based in France and a test aircraft based in Norway.
On a closer inspection the sprues look very good. parts have very nice recessed panel lines, and there is some raised detail in the cockpit area and the wheel wells. The side walls for the cockpit area are seperated so that a very high level of detail can be achived when you build this one straight out of the box. The clear sprue is really cristal clear and pretty thin for a injection moulded canopy.
The construction starts almost as usual with the cockpit. The first 29 steps deal with this part of the aircraft. After you have placed the cockpit with the main wing spar into one half of the airframe you'll need to add the ribbons around the tailwheel area an add the nicely detailed tailwheel and the spars for the tailplanes. after adding some small parts you can finaly close the airframe in step 39. Step 40 untill Step 51 is or adding more detail in the cockpit and adding the bottom and nose canopies. Step 52 starts with the wings. Don't forget to open up the holes on the underside of the wing for the airbrakes. Step 61 until Step 67 is for the tailplanes and the back part of the engines. From step 68 you will build the very promising looking main undercarriages, after which they will be placed in their wells, and you have to continue with the main canopy from step 74 until step 82. the last 9 steps are for some small things like the tailwheel doors, and the propellor including the engine fronts.
For a price of 39,95€ this is a excellent kit and I can really recommend this one to everybody! It's large, 45,3 cm long and 57,1 cm wide, but it's got a high level of detail and a great overall look too! A real must have for all large scale world war II era builders!
