Some history about this plane, which claims to be the oldest airworthy PBY-5A, and the only one flying in the European Continent.
BuNo. 2459, construction No. 300. It was one of the 33 planes ordered by the US Navy in december 1939.
During WW2 the aircraft has sunk to following U-boats, U464, U582, U194. The U-boat U528 was heavely damaged by the PBY.
After the war, the Catalina was used during the making of the movie Flipper. When this was over the aircraft was converted to a firebomber and used in Canada and South America.
The restoration project started in 2000 and took 4 1/2 years to complete.
From 2005 it is a much seen aircraft on european airshows.
